Conceived over three and a half centuries ago as a carriage way on which to display rank, wealth, and zing, the Cours Mirabeau has not entirely abandoned its original calling. The social and political allegiances of its cafés and the constant criss-crossing of Aixois, students, and tourists are well worth the price of a petit café . They are part of a farniente savored by visitors and locals alike. Le Cours combines theatre, museum, and vignettes of life, both local and cosmopolitan.
