Musée Granet

Housed in the historic priory of the
Order of the Knights of Saint-John next to the church of Saint-Jean de Malte, rue Cardinale, the "Granet" contains important collections from the 17th and 18th centuries, pre-Roman statuary from Entremont, the oppidum 2 kms to the north of Aix-en-Provence ; also, famous canvases by Guy Constantin, Granet, Ingres, as well as a clutch of lesser known Cézannes.

 

Atelier Cézanne

A ten-minute hike uphill from the parking Pasteur, on your left hand, overlooking Aix-en-Provence and surrounding countryside. The view is now limited by urban and natural growth, though the atelier has retained much of its 19th century atmosphere, furnishings, and memorabilia... a shrine.

Musée des Tapisseries

Musée du Vieil Aix

Noteworthy for its magnificent doorway, vestibule and staircase, with its wrought-iron balustrade. The Hôtel d’Estienne de Saint-Jean, one of three Aix-en-Provence town houses attributed to Pierre Puget, recalls a time when Aix-en-Provence was the elegant capital of Provence.

Pavillon Vendôme

One of Aix’s more delightful and worst-kept secrets, a love-nest built by Louis de Mercœur, Governor of Provence, for his "friend", la Belle du Canet. Set in a "jardin à la française" it is furnished with period pieces, tastefully restored. Frequent exhibitions are largely devoted to the history of Aix-en-Provence.

Fondation Vasarely

An ambitious projection of twentieth century Aix-en-Provence into the age of "Op Art", exemplified by Hungarian born Victor Vasarely. Exhibitions of contemporary art, and some permanent pieces by Vasarely.

Museum of Natural History

Housed in the prestigious Hôtel Boyer d’Eguilles, the Museum’s collections of fish, insects, plants, dinosaurs and their eggs take you on a sixty million year trip in time.

Oppidum d'Entremont

Celto-Ligurian stronghold

We call Entremont, just outside the city limits on the plateau de Puyricard. An archaeological excavation first realised by the German luftwaffer (air-force) during world war II (while setting up radars for the regions defensive shield)
